About Vocem Resurgentis

Vocem Resurgentis was inspired by a desire to share this ancient and timeless music with a wider audience. Formed in 2013 by soprano Linda Falvy, and joined by founding members soprano Mary Enid Haines, and contralto Catherine McCormack, Linda and Mary Enid are pleased to be joined for this performance by Paola Di Santo.

Linda Falvy’s studies and performance have been focused on early music, initially concentrating on the baroque period which included the study of baroque dance and led to her beginning studies with Mary Enid Haines.  Her interest in medieval music began with Gregorian chant and has included participation in Vancouver Early Music’s Medieval Programme with Sequentia, The Sound-World of Hildegard with Susan Hellauer of Anonymous 4 and workshops in the Czech Republic and Spain with leading medieval music scholars.   Church music remains a strong component of Linda’s musical practice and she is currently Soprano Section Lead at St. Cuthbert’s Anglican Church.   Linda has also performed as soloist and choir member with local ensembles specializing in music from the Renaissance to Baroque periods.   Linda is looking forward to travelling to France this summer to participate in the Academy of Medieval Music in Thoronet lead by Dominique Vellard and Ensemble Gilles Binchois.

Mary Enid Haines is recognized as a leading interpreter of baroque and classical song in recital, oratorio and opera. She has made solo appearances with ensembles in Europe, New Zealand, the USA and Canada including the Aradia Ensemble, the Tafelmusik Baroque Orchestra and Choir, Musick Fyne, the Kitchener Renaissance Singers, and the Oshawa and Windsor Symphonies.  In addition to having held positions as Director of the Early Music Ensemble at the University of Toronto and University of Ottawa’s Department of Music, soprano Mary Enid Haines is an acclaimed specialist in the field of voice rehabilitation. Since 1999 Ms. Haines has worked as the Singing Voice Specialist at the Voice Disorders Clinic at St. Michael's Hospital, Toronto. She has lectured on the subject of vocal pedagogy for the University of Toronto’s Faculty of Music, and the University of Ottawa’s Speech Language Pathology Department.  A graduate of the University of Toronto (Mus Bach, Mmus) and the Royal Conservatory of Music (ARCT), Ms. Haines also holds certificates from the London Early Music Centre and the National Center for Voice and Speech (Vocology).

Catherine McCormack is experienced in, and a lover of, many music genres. Originally from Nova Scotia, she began singing in church variety shows at the age of five where she developed a fondness for Irish and Scottish folk songs. Since then, this dramatic contralto has been involved in many high level ensembles, large and small, from contemporary to classical. Catherine has performed alongside a hip hop artist at Desifest (a South Asian music festival) and sung Pergolesi's Stabat Mater at St Cuthbert's Anglican Church where she is the Alto Section Lead. Catherine loves incorporating acting, art, and movement into performances; in her other life as a social worker she is interested in the therapeutic potential of music for healing and community building.
